PODC 2000: Local Transportation in Portland
The Portland metropolitan area is served by an excellent public transportation
system named Tri-Met. There
are number of features of the system that may be of special interest to
PODC attendees:
-
There is bus service direct from Portland International Airport to downtown
Portland on the #12 bus. This bus has stops two blocks from the hotel
(coming from the airport) and one block from the hotel (going to the airport).
The one-way fare is US$1.15. More information about this route can
be found at this link.
-
All transit service (bus and light rail) within a large area in downtown
Portland is FREE. This area is is called "Fareless Square" and basically
includes all of downtown east of Interstate 405 and the Willamette River.
of Fareless Square. The conference hotel is in the middle of this
area; thus, you can get to from the hotel to many attractions in downtown
Portland for no charge.
-
Most city buses traverse downtown on Fifth and Sixth Avenues on what is
called the "Transit Mall". Click here
for a map of the Transit Mall. The Transit Mall is one block from
the conference hotel.
