The 2002 PODC Conference is being held in the Doubletree hotel in downtown Monterey city, located in the heart of the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California.  Originally established by the Spanish in 1770, the city of Monterey was the first capital of California , and many historic Spanish, Mexican and early American buildings still stand in the central part of the city.  Monterey is perhaps most famous for its glorious scenery, and has been called "the perfect meeting of land, sea and sky".  Its attractions include R.L.Stevenson's home , Colton Hall (where California's first constitution was written), lively Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf, the Monterey Aquarium, and the world-famous Pebble Beach golf course.


Hotel Information

The Monterey Doubletree is located in the heart of downtown Monterey, just a few minutes' walk from the Monterey Aquarium and Fisherman's wharf in downtown Monterey.  It is around 60 miles south of San Jose, 120 miles south of San Francisco, and 340 miles north of Los Angeles.  There are regular shuttles to and from San Jose and San Francisco airports. Shuttles cost $30 per person, one-way; the shuttles take 1.75 hours to San Jose airport, and 2.5 hours to San Francisco airport.  More information about the shuttles can be found on the Monterey Airbus web site.

The hotel has 380 guest rooms and suites, of which 355 are non-smoking rooms.   There are 8 handicapped-accessible guest rooms, and all meeting rooms and public outlets are wheelchair accessible.  There is a fitness center, a pool, and a jacuzzi.  Hotel parking is $12/day (self) or $14/day (valet, for 24 hours).

Hotel Registration

A block of rooms have been reserved at the conference rate of $164/night under the group name ACM-PODC.
There is a $20 charge for each additional person per night.  (There is no charge for children under 18.)

Rates are subject to an additional 10.05% tax.  To get the US$164 rate, you must make your reservation by 5 July 2002, and identify yourself as being with the ACM-PODC group.

All reservations need to be guaranteed by making a deposit equivalent to one night's room and tax, or the guarantee of the same by major credit card.  There will be no room cancellation fee for reservations cancelled twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled date of arrival.  If reservation are not cancelled prior to 24 hours in advance, a "no-show" fee equivalent to one night's rent will be assessed.

Check in time is 3 p.m., and check out time is 12 p.m. (noon).  There are arrangements for storing baggage beyond 12 p.m.
