Driving directions from Boston Logan International Airport

Follow signs from airport for Massachusetts Turnpike West (Interstate 90 West); there are some small tolls on this road. Travel 11 miles on the turnpike, then take exit 15 for Interstate 95 South. Travel 3.6 miles on Interstate 95, then take exit 19A (Highland Avenue). Merge onto Highland Avenue, take the first right (at Ground Round restaurant), follow the road and take the first left up to the Sheraton Needham Hotel. Parking in the garage is free for PODC attendees.

Driving directions from Interstate 95 (north or south)

Take exit 19A (Highland Avenue). Merge onto Highland Avenue, take the first right (at Ground Round restaurant), follow the road and take the first left up to the Sheraton Needham Hotel. Parking in the garage is free for PODC attendees.

Alternative transportation from the airport

A taxi will be expensive, probably about $50. A convenient and cost-effective alternative is to use a "shared van" service. The Sheraton Needham recommends Back Bay Coach. Before you travel: Call Back Bay Coach at 888-BACK-BAY (888-222-5229) to make a reservation. On arrival: Due to new security measures, they can no longer meet your flight. When you have collected your baggage, call Back Bay Coach again at the same number, and they will give you instructions for meeting your van. The fare to the Sheraton Needham will be $24 per person, or $16 per person if you find others to share with. See also the information below about using public transportation. However, it is unlikely that any cost saving would be worth the additional inconvenience, especially if you arrive on Sunday. Click here for information on reaching South Station from the airport (not a good option if arriving on Sunday), and here for information on reaching other parts of the "T" system from the airport.

Alternative transportation from Boston using public transportation

There are a couple of public transport options for reaching Needham from Boston. The best is the commuter rail, which costs $2.75. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Needham Heights station, which is 1 mile (a short cab ride) from the Sheraton Needham hotel. Unfortunately, this service does not run on Sunday - the first day of the conference. On Sunday, you can take the "T"'s Green Line (D) to Riverside station, which will cost $1 and take about $45 minutes from Government Center "T" station. Click here for information about getting to the "T" system from the airport. Riverside station is somewhat further from the hotel than Needham Heights; the taxi fare should be less than $15, according to the hotel. Again, if you are coming from the airport on Sunday, it is probably worthwhile to use Back Bay Coach, as explained above.
