{"id":175,"date":"2017-05-18T13:27:05","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T17:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.podc.org\/podc2017\/?page_id=175"},"modified":"2021-10-29T10:39:45","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T14:39:45","slug":"student-grants","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.podc.org\/podc2017\/student-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>36th Annual ACM SIGACT-SIGOPS Symposium on<br \/>\nPrinciples of Distributed Computing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- .entry-header --><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Washington, DC, USA<br \/>\nJuly 25-27, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CALL FOR APPLICATIONS for STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PODC 2017, along with SIGOPS, SIGACT, ACM, and other PODC sponsors, would like to encourage student participation at the Symposium.<\/p>\n<p>PODC 2017 will partially reimburse the travel costs and\/or the registration cost of deserving graduate student registrants who might otherwise be unable to attend the conference.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students eligible to apply are the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Graduate students at the time of registration, or<\/li>\n<li>Undergraduate students that are (co)-authors of a PODC&#8217;17 paper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The number and amount of awards will be determined based on the available budget and the applications received.<\/p>\n<h2>Application Material<\/h2>\n<p>Applications should be sent by e-mail with the subject &#8220;PODC 2017 Student Travel Grant Application&#8221; to PODC 2017 Travel Grant coordinator Bapi Chatterjee <a href=\"mailto:bhaskerchatterjee@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&lt;bhaskerchatterjee@gmail.com&gt;<\/a>. In addition to a student&#8217;s application, a short letter of recommendation should be sent by the <strong>student&#8217;s advisor<\/strong> to the above email address with the subject line &#8220;PODC 2017 Student Travel Grant &#8211; Recommendation&#8221; (the advisor should clarify the nature and amount of any other sources of funding that are available or have been applied for). Please note that both these emails must be received by the <strong>deadline <\/strong>(see below) in order for an application to be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Each student application should include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student name, affiliation, and address<\/li>\n<li>Type of support requested (travel cost, registration, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Expected Expenses (broken down as registration, travel, and lodging)<\/li>\n<li>Type of student (PhD, MS, undergraduate etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Number of years that the applicant have been a student in the current program, and expected date of completion<\/li>\n<li>A short paragraph (maximum 150 words) describing briefly why the student wants to attend PODC 2017 (e.g., to present a paper).
