Dijkstra Prize in Distributed Computing<\/a> was awarded to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/elizabeth-borowsky-1bb8b\/\">Elizabeth Borowsky<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/web.cs.ucla.edu\/~eli\/\">Eli Gafni<\/a> for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dl.acm.org\/citation.cfm?id=167119\">Generalized FLP impossibility result for t-resilient asynchronous computations<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"\/?p=1710\">2017 Principles of Distributed Computing Doctoral Dissertation Award<\/a> was awarded to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/groups.csail.mit.edu\/tds\/papers\/Ghaffari\/PhDThesis-Ghaffari.pdf\">Improved Distributed Algorithms for Fundamental Graph Problems<\/a>\u201d by Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/people.csail.mit.edu\/ghaffari\/\">Mohsen Ghaffari<\/a> supervised by Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/people.csail.mit.edu\/lynch\/\">Nancy Lynch<\/a> at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.<\/li>\n<li>The best paper award went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.bgu.ac.il\/~elkinm\/\">Michael Elkin<\/a> for the paper \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/authorize.cfm?key=N32658\">A Simple Deterministic Distributed MST Algorithm, with Near-Optimal Time and Message Complexities<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The best student paper award went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk\/~czumaj\/\">Artur Czumaj<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.warwick.ac.uk\/fac\/sci\/dcs\/people\/research\/csukah\/\">Peter Davies<\/a> fpr the paper \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/authorize.cfm?key=N32539\">Exploiting Spontaneous Transmissions for Broadcasting and Leader Election in Radio Networks<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>We held the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.podc.org\/podc2017\/peleg-celebration\/\">David Peleg Celebration <\/a>to celebrate the work of David Peleg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Invited speakers at PODC 2017 included<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~guyb\/\">Guy Blelloch<\/a>, CMU<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www-cs.ccny.cuny.edu\/~rosario\/\">Rosario Gennaro<\/a>, CUNY<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cs.brown.edu\/~mph\/\">Maurice Herlihy<\/a>, Brown University (<a href=\"\/data\/podc2017\/talks\/herlihy-keynote.pptx\">slides<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Follow PODC on Twitter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/@podc_conference\">@podc_conference<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Scope<\/h2>\n<p>The ACM Symposium on Principles of Distributed Computing, is an international forum on the theory, design, analysis, implementation and application of distributed systems and networks. We solicit papers in all areas of distributed computing. Papers from all viewpoints, including theory, practice, and experimentation, are welcome. The common goal of the conference is to improve understanding of the principles underlying distributed computing.
