Setting up a new PODC

Please include on this page all tips and procedures you use to create a new web site for a new conference year.

This page will forever be a work in progress.  Just to be concrete, let’s assume we are trying to set up PODC 2025.

Create the PODC 2025 web site:

  • My Sites -> Network admin -> Sites -> Add new site.
    • Site address: https://www.podc.org/podc2025
    • Site title: ACM PODC 2025
    • Admin email: markrtuttle@gmail.com
  • Users: Add yourself as an admin
  • Theme:  accept default
  • Settings:
    • blogname: ACM PODC 2025
    • blogdescription: June 16-20, 2025, Huatulco, Mexico

 

Go to 2025 web site

Set theme: Appearance -> Themes -> PODC Twenty Sixteen -> Activate

Create initial (blank) PODC 2025 home page:

  • Pages -> add new page with title PODC 2025
  • Settings -> reading settings -> home page displays as -> static page -> PODC 2025

Create PODC 2025 menu:

  • Appearance -> menus -> create new menu with title PODC 2025
  • Copy link names from PODC 2024 with no links to start.
  • It is really enough to create “Program committee”, “Conference committee”, “Steering committee” with links just “/”.

Create Navigation menu:

  • Appearance -> menus -> create new menu with title Navigation
  • Set as “primary menu”
  • Copy link names from PODC 2024 top of page with no links to start

Set up widgets:

  • Appearance -> widgets and delete contents of all widgets (click on items and select delete from right hand drop down box).
  • In sidebar widget:
    • add navigation menu type, title PODC 2025, select menu PODC 2025
    • add custom html type, and copy PODC 2024 advertisements  to start

Create basic conference pages

  • Use the following titles with content “Coming soon…” and link to them from the PODC 2025 menu mentioned above.
    • Call for papers
    • Calls for workshops and tutorials
    • Program committee
    • Conference committee
    • Steering committee
    • Call for Dijkstra Prize nominations
    • Call for Dissertation Award nominations
  • Copy the contents of this PODC 2025 menu to the PODC 2025 drop-down menu in Navigation menu.
  • Copy the calls to the Calls drop down menu in Navigation menu

Copy top-level PODC page to top-level PODC 2025 page, PODC 2024 and Calls submenus of PODC Navigation menu is copied to PODC 2024 and Calls submenus of PODC 2024 Navigation.

Trim top-level PODC page to News section “PODC 2025 will be held…” and Scope section. 

Go to the main PODC web site

  • Change the tag line:  settings -> general -> tagline : June 16-20, 2025, Huatulco, Mexico
  • Copy PODC 2025 and Calls submenus from PODC 2025 Navigation to PODC Navigation.
  • Create a PODC 2025 menu and copy the PODC 2025 menu from the PODC 2025 site, and add it to the sidebar with appearance -> widgets -> sidebar -> navigation menu -> PODC 2025

To do

  • Copy top-level “About PODC” links from the PODC Navigation menu to the PODC 2025 Navigation menu under “About PODC”
  • Add PODC2024/5 to Past PODCs
  • Copy Past PODCs from PODC to PODC2025
  • Add Mexico picture to PODC and PODC2025 header
  • Add administrators
