Classic Consensus Impossibilities in Modern Byzantine Fault Tolerance

Abstract

The consensus problem, under various network and failure models, has been an active area of research since the 1980s. This problem has enjoyed a renewed spotlight in recent years due to the rise of blockchains. In this talk, I’ll give an overview of some classic impossibility results that still influence research today, and discuss current research challenges in the area.
