MaRIA and MoPS Meetings

Mentorship about Research, Industry, and Academia (MaRIA)

Introduction
There are a variety of challenges that lie ahead in our careers: how to approach or make progress in research, how to navigate the job market (academia or industry), and dealing with more personal concerns such as work-life balance and family. The goal of these meetings is to provide an opportunity for early-career participants (e.g., students and postdocs) to interact and learn from more experienced members of the community, who perhaps have helpful insights about what has worked (or hasn’t worked) for them.

Format

  1. PODC participants will receive e-mail invitations containing a link to a sign-up form.
  2. After filling out the form to indicate availability and interests/preferences, there will be a matching process to create small meetings (one mentor together with a small number of early-career participants)
  3. After the matching process, we will e-mail you the date and time of your meeting, together with a Zoom link and some further tips/instructions.

Meet other Postdocs and Students (MoPS)

Introduction
The main thing missing from a virtual conference is the opportunity to be social! Life-long friendships and research collaborations are created and maintained year after year at PODC, but newer members of our community haven’t had many of these opportunities yet. The goal of MoPS is to bring students and postdocs together to meet their peers in informal conversations. Think of it as an online coffee break and social event.

Format

  1. PODC participants will receive e-mail invitations containing a link to a sign-up form.
  2. After filling out the form to indicate your availability, we will form small groups.
  3. Once the groups are formed, we will e-mail you the date and time of your meeting, together with a Zoom link and some further instructions, some icebreaker questions, etc.
